Hawaii - Day 1

Mom and I got on the plane at 9AM this morning and flew for 6 hours to get to Oahu. It was only 12 noon in Waikiki, though, because Hawaii is 3 hours earlier than us. We rested for a bit, then went down to the beach. It was sooooo fun, the salt water almost keeps you up without swimming very much. The waves were really fun. Thursday I'm going in bigger waves.

That's us on the pink & blue float things.         Nana and Papa.

This morning I woke up at 4:40AM and couldn't go back to sleep since it was 7:40AM, Bellingham time. After I woke up enough, I ate and did my schoolwork. I was actually done by 10AM, so we met Nana and Papa at McDonald's, went across the street for a guava smoothie and then we walked to the Aquarium.

On the way, we stopped to take photos of a huge banyan tree and feed some birds. After a few minutes, they started perching on my arm!

photos from my phone go here -----

The aquarium was smaller than I thought, but then we found the inside part and that was bigger (and cooler). The outside was really hot and I was sweatier than I am after a football game on a hot day in Bellingham.
I learned about monk seals - they only live around the Hawaiian islands. There used to be over 5,000 but now there is less than 900. The aquarium is doing a research and educational program to help bring back the numbers. There are many other fish along with the coral that they are doing the same thing for.

Me writing 3 things I've learned about monk seals and drawing my pictures for school.

Tomorrow is Pearl Harbor!!!
